What to do if your child has COVID Symptoms

Several people have asked for clarification on testing as there is a lot of conflicting information out there. As such, please follow the advice below.

If your child has any one of the following symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • lost sense of smell or taste or it’s changed

then your child must stay away from school and they should get a PCR test. You can arrange to get a PCR test by going to https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

At the website you will be able to order a test kit to be delivered to your home or book an appointment at a walk-in or drive-through test site.

If you cannot use the online system then you should telephone on 119 - these lines are open from 7am to 11pm each day.

Please note that they should stay away from school for at least 10 days, unless they receive a negative PCR test - in which case, they can return to school.

It is very important that you do not use the LFD (Lateral Flow Device) tests if you or your child has symptoms. LFD tests are only for weekly testing when you do not have symptoms.
