Welcome to The Castle School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the website of the Castle School. I am extremely proud of everything that my skilled and talented team of staff do and would relish the opportunity to show you around the school to see all the amazing work for yourself.

Here at The Castle School we work with each individual pupil to support their specific needs in order to develop their learning in an enjoyable and fun way. We will use a wide range of different strategies to ensure that the barriers to learning experienced by our pupils do not prevent them from making the most of their time at school. We want their experience to be one they remember positively and one that stands them in good stead for their lives ahead.

We cater for children between the ages of 3 and 19 with a wide variety of complex learning needs. We have children with us who have profound and multiple needs, autism, ADHD, severe learning difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical and mobility difficulties, sensory difficulties and speech and language delay. This is not an exhaustive list and we are able to cater for all learning needs within our highly skilled and capable team.

The Castle School caters for children with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of 2 to 19 offering a range of provision for different ages, stages and needs. At the heart of everything we do is inclusion. Our special school has been recognised for providing outstanding learning opportunities across a broad curriculum in school and in the wider community.

Our nursery age pupils have access to broad provision in our co-located nursery at Victoria Park Nursery and Children’s Centre about a mile from the main school site. The pupils at nursery are included in school life by accessing hydrotherapy, the ball pool, being involved in nativity plays and joining in sensory play.

For older pupils, the Love Lane site offers a range of facilities in both the Primary House for key stage 1 and 2 pupils and the Secondary House for key stage 3 and 4 pupils.

Pupils in years 12,13 and 14 are based at our purpose-built Post-16 Centre which is located next to Newbury College.

Our Curriculum is personalised and driven by the needs of each individual learner and is adapted to enable all our pupils to thrive and succeed in whatever they choose to do. Older pupils will work towards nationally accredited qualifications at a level appropriate to their needs including GCSE, Entry Levels, Vocational Qualifications, Duke of Edinburgh Award, LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts) qualifications and Arts Award.

At The Castle School we believe that all children deserve all the opportunities to enable them to shine. We believe that all children should be given the right skills to enable them to participate fully in their local community and beyond. We believe that all children should be able to have a successful and fulfilling life in paid employment.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced as we believe that all our pupils should have a rich and diverse experience that you would expect in any school. This curriculum is adapted and adjusted to meet every child's needs.

We welcome visits and would be delighted to show you around our school. We have a range of specialist facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, an outdoor music classroom, sensory rooms and a therapists’ centre which caters for children in school and others.

Please contact the school if you wish to make a visit.
